Fire destroys 1 home, damages 2 in Malibu

ASSOCIATED PRESS

7:56 a.m. July 3, 2008

MALIBU – A fire has destroyed a beachfront house in Malibu, damaged two others and shut down traffic in both directions on Pacific Coast Highway for hours.

Los Angeles County fire Inspector Darryl Jacobs says no one was hurt in the fire, which broke out in a three-story home about 3 a.m. Thursday. Flames quickly spread to the two houses next to it.

The three-story home was destroyed. Another home was severely damaged and the third suffered minor damage. Jacobs says six people were evacuated from the two damaged homes, but the destroyed home was vacant.

It took more than 45 firefighters nearly two hours to knock down the fire.

The California Highway Patrol says all lanes of Pacific Coast Highway have reopened after being closed for more than four hours.
