PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – Hospital officials say longtime St. Louis Cardinals official George Kissell has died after he was injured in a traffic accident in Florida.

Pinellas Park Police Capt. Sanfield Foreseth says Kissell died Tuesday night at Tampa General Hospital.

Police say Kissell's daughter was driving her parents Monday night when she apparently ran a red light and was hit by another car.

The 88-year-old Kissell was transferred to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His daughter was treated and released.

Kissell's wife was also in the car. She was treated at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle had minor injuries.

Kissell had been with the Cardinals organization since 1940. He was a major league coach from 1969 to 1975.
