Hero

Sage Rosenfels: Relieves injured Gus Frerotte, leads team from 20 points down in fourth quarter to beat Buffalo

Zero

Michael Vick: Falcons QB has only three carries for 36 yards, is sacked five times and intercepted twice in loss at Carolina.

Best coaching move

The Panthers drafted Thomas Davis for his combination of size (6-0, 231 pounds) and speed (4.43 40). For the Carolina coaching staff, that made Davis the perfect candidate to spy on Vick. Davis helped harass the Falcons QB into his worst game of the season.

Worst coaching move

During a timeout, Niners coach Mike Nolan had to ask officials whether he could challenge a fumble call without risking a timeout. When the officials didn't give him a definitive answer, Nolan decided to throw the challenge flag. It cost him his team's final timeout.

Say what?

"I've seen it happen many times on TV, but to have it happen to you really smacks you in the face. ... I can't really describe it, because I'm no Shakespeare."

Thrice as nice

On New Orleans' final drive, Aaron Brooks threw for the end zone on what could have been a tying score when Bucs CB Ronde Barber picked off the pass for his third INT of the game. One week earlier, Barber had dropped an easy interception and was reminded of it by coach Jon Gruden. "'Catch a ball for me this week?'" he said. Barber did three times better.

Rumbling man

At 6-foot-2 and a conservative 295 pounds, Colts defensive tackle Larry Tripplett is a big man. Yet no one had a chance at catching him when he picked off a Steve McNair fumble in midair and romped 60 yards for a score. "At about the 20-yard line, I looked up at the Jumbotron and I didn't see anybody behind me," he said. "I said thank goodness, because I was getting a little winded."

Electric run

The Cardinals couldn't take control of their game with the 49ers until WR Anquan Boldin turned a short catch on third-and-20 into a 54-yard TD rumble, avoiding five tackles and eventually diving into the end zone with 10:45 to play. "Q made a tremendous play to spark us," QB Kurt Warner said about Boldin, who had no logical business getting to the end zone.
