North Edition: Christmas tree recycling locations

UNION-TRIBUNE

Most North County trash-collection services offer curbside pickup of Christmas trees on regular collection days.

Unflocked trees, cut into sections less than 4 feet long and 18 inches in diameter, can be placed with other green waste. Ornaments, tinsel, tree stands and nails must be removed. No plastic bags or string should be used to wrap trees. Tree sections should not weigh more than 50 pounds.

Flocked trees should go into the regular trash can, unless otherwise noted.

In addition, many areas also have drop-off sites where trees can be taken for recycling.

CAMP PENDLETON

Curbside: Flocked and unflocked trees accepted through Jan. 13. Put trees next to trash can.

CARLSBAD

Curbside: Stack unflocked trees in loose pile next to trash cans. Through Jan. 13.

Drop-off: Coast Waste Management yard, 5960 El Camino Real; Calaveras Park, 2997 Glasgow Drive; Poinsettia Park, 6600 Hidden Valley Road; Stagecoach Park (lower park), 3420 Camino de los Coches; and Fire Station No. 1, 1275 Carlsbad Village Drive. Through Jan. 13.

CARMEL VALLEY

Curbside: With regular greenery pickup, every other week, through Jan. 13.

Drop-off: Carmel Valley Recreation Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive, lower parking lot, to Jan. 23. Flocked trees accepted.

DEL MAR

Curbside: With regular trash pickup through Jan. 13. Flocked trees accepted.

Drop-off: Liberty Recycling/Waste Management Recycling Center, 2265 Jimmy Durante Blvd. Hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays; closed 1 to 1:40 p.m. and holidays.

ENCINITAS

Curbside: With regular trash pickup, through Jan. 13.

Drop-off: Moonlight Beach upper parking lot, Third and C streets, through Monday. Trees can be placed in bins provided by EDCO.

ESCONDIDO

Curbside: Pickup for single-family residences with green waste through Jan. 16. Apartment pickup through Monday; contact complex manager for details.

Drop-off: Kit Carson Park, 3333 Bear Valley Parkway, south entrance, first parking lot on right, across from adult softball complex. Jesmond Dene Park, 2401 N. Broadway, parking lot next to ballfields. Through Jan. 16.

FALLBROOK

Curbside: With regular trash pickup anytime.

Drop-off: Permanent bin at Fallbrook Refuse, 550 W. Aviation Road.

OCEANSIDE

Curbside: With regular trash pickup through Jan. 13.

POWAY

Curbside: Tree pickup began Dec. 26 with regular green-waste collection

RANCHO BERNARDO

Curbside: Only single-family homes with green-waste collection can recycle their trees on the regular collection day anytime; contact complex manager for apartment and condo pickup.

Drop-off: Rancho Bernardo Recreation Center, 18448 W. Bernardo Drive. Daylight hours through today. Trees should be cut in half if possible.

RANCHO PENASQUITOS

Curbside: Same as Rancho Bernardo.

Drop-off: Canyonside Recreation Center, 12350 Black Mountain Road. Daylight hours.

RANCHO SANTA FE

Curbside: With regular trash pickup through Jan. 13.

Drop-off: Liberty Recycling/Waste Management Recycling Center, 2265 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar. Hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays; closed 1 to 1:40 p.m. and holidays.

SAN MARCOS

Curbside: With regular trash pickup for two weeks after Christmas.

Drop-off: Bins in the parking lot west of City Hall, 1 Civic Center Drive, through Monday.

SOLANA BEACH

Curbside: With regular trash pickup, through Jan. 13. Trees taller than 4 feet must be cut in half. No flocked trees.

VALLEY CENTER

Curbside: Service begins on regular trash day.

Drop-off: Disposal area behind Valley Center Community Hall, 28246 Lilac Road, through Monday. No flocked trees accepted.

VISTA

Curbside: With regular trash pickup anytime, to be picked up along with other green waste.

Drop-off: East end of the unpaved lot between City Hall and Vista branch library on Eucalyptus Avenue, through Monday.
