Youth soccer squad: Iraq's 14-and-younger national soccer team has won its first two games in the Dallas Cup, a tournament featuring 184 teams. Iraq's bracket includes teams from Mexico, Idaho and Chicago. Mostly the sons of poor small-business owners, the Iraqi players beat the Chicago Magic 3-1 on Monday and Maristas Monterry 6-0 yesterday.
The trip to Texas is being paid for by Hyperion Resources, a Dallas-based energy firm that has spent the past two years trying to secure oil projects in Iraq.

Car bomb: A car bomb exploded near a Baghdad restaurant frequented by police, killing at least five people, including three police, and wounding 13, Interior Ministry sources said.

Kidnapped man's body: The body of a man who was kidnapped four days ago was found near Kirkuk, police said. He was beheaded and showed signs of being tortured.

Beheaded soldiers: The bodies of four Iraqi soldiers who were beheaded were found in Jurf al-Sahkar, 50 miles south of Baghdad, police said.

Roadside bomb: A policeman and a civilian were wounded when a roadside bomb went off near a police patrol in Zafaraniya, a suburb of Baghdad, police said.

Rumsfeld responds:Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld issued a rebuttal to recent comments by retired generals criticizing Iraq war planning and calling on him to resign.
In particular, Rumsfeld said he didn't recall retired Lt. Gen. Gregory Newbold raising any objections to the war planning when he was working in the Pentagon for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Newbold, in Time magazine, said he was outspoken in his criticism before the war, saying the “zealots' rationale for war made no sense.”
At least two other retired generals have raised similar concerns recently, including Gen. Anthony Zinni, the former U.S. Mideast commander.
