A New York Times News Service article April 26 about seating options that airlines are considering to accommodate more passengers incorrectly said that aircraft manufacturer Airbus has been quietly pitching an option for passengers to fly standing, with harnesses holding them in position. In fact, Airbus researched the idea three years ago but has since abandoned it. Also, the story incorrectly said that the Airbus A380 accommodates about 500 passengers with a typical configuration but would hold 853 passengers with additional standing-room-only positions. In fact, the airliner can seat 853 passengers.
