PLNU softball team shut down at NAIAs

The Point Loma Nazarene softball team's run in the NAIA National Tournament ended yesterday with a 7-0 loss to Cal Baptist in the losers-bracket championship game in Decatur, Ala.

The eighth-seeded Sea Lions (46-17) went 5-3 in the tournament and finished third, their best performance since a national runner-up showing in 2002.

Tennis

USD's Pierrick Ysern, ranked 42nd nationally, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships by defeating No. 12 Jerry Makowski of Texas A&M 6-3, 6-3. No. 41 Emma Murphy of USD dropped her first-round match to Federica van Adrichem of Clemson 6-3, 6-2.

Women's golf

Cal State San Marcos is in third place after the second day of play at the NAIA Women's Golf Championships at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind. CSUSM (64-over-par 640) trails leader Oklahoma City (594) and British Columbia (624). Nikki Imaromna is CSUSM's top individual at 14-over 158.
