Agency: Escondido Humane Society

Need: Volunteers in the Education Department to teach children about kindness toward animals. Also, help is needed in the Pet Therapy program for seniors. Training provided.

Site: Shelter location at 3450 E. Valley Parkway and other North County sites.

Minimum time: Mostly weekdays with flexible hours.

Agency: Scripps Green Hospital and Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines

Need: Adult volunteers for assignments in the gift shop, surgery waiting room, information desk and patient care units.

Site: 10666 N. Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla, and Scripps Clinic Rancho Bernardo.

Minimum time: Four hours a week for six months. Weekday, evening and weekend positions.

Agency: Friends of Cats (a shelter for homeless cats)

Need: Fundraising, public relations, painting and carpentry, caring for cats.

Site: El Cajon.

Minimum time: No minimum.

Agency: Greyhound Adoption Center

Need: Giving attention to and feeding rescued greyhounds, and cleaning their kennels. Training is provided.

Site: 9078 Winter Gardens Blvd., Lakeside.

Minimum time: Three hours a session. Sessions can be weekly, bimonthly or monthly.

Agency: Zoological Society of San Diego

Need: Volunteers 21 and older with a Zoological Society membership to help with local habitat restoration projects, read books to children, greet guests at the petting zoo, remove litter and answer facility and guest questions at the zoo or Wild Animal Park.

Site: San Diego Florida Canyon, Balboa Park, Wild Animal Park.

Minimum time: 40 hours a year.

Agency: People for Trees

Need: Tree plantings.

Site: Citywide.

Minimum time: 8:30 a.m. to noon every Saturday, rain or shine.

Contact: (619) 222-8733, ext. 4. Ask for Mavin Davidson on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Agency: San Diego Special Olympics

Need: Chaperones for the Greater Games, a weekend of sports events and social and entertainment activities for the competitors, friends and families.

Site: San Diego State University, 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego.

Minimum time: June 2-4. All meals and lodging will be provided.

Agency: Mission San Luis Rey

Need: Help for pre-event planning, sponsorship and day of event for the fourth annual golf tournament on July 24.

Site: Mission San Luis Rey, 4050 Mission Ave., Oceanside.

Minimum time: Three hours a week through July 24. Training provided.

Agency: Neighborhood Healthcare

Need: Volunteers for the Pace Setter Awards Ceremony setup and checkout.

Site: Orfila Winery, 13455 San Pasqual Road, Escondido.

Minimum time: Three hours. Event is from 5:30 to 10 p.m. June 3.
