Carlsbad spotlight

Stroll around Carlsbad Village and sample foods from around the world.

The new Taste of the Village in Carlsbad will feature French, Italian, Mexican, Irish and American cuisine from more than 20 restaurants in Carlsbad Village downtown.

Festivities include street performers and live music from 4 to 7 p.m. June 4.

The event presented by the Carlsbad Village Business Association will be along Carlsbad Village Drive, State Street, Grand Avenue and Carlsbad Village Boulevard.

Tickets: $25, available at Carlsbad Village Business Association Farmer's Markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays and association offices, 2579 State St., and in stores such as Carlsbad Luxury Consignments, Carlsbad Village Art & Antique mall and Sacred Pathway Bookstore.

“Spiral Bound: The Spiritual Journey of Aging”: The exhibit features works by 12 artists and depicts aging as a spiritual journey. Opening program and reception from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Front Porch Gallery, 2903 Carlsbad Blvd., Carlsbad. The program will be presented by the Rev. Donald Koepke, director of the Center for Spirituality and Aging, sponsored by California Lutheran Homes. “Asking for Eyes: The Visual Voice of Southeast Africa:” More than 100 objects used in the daily life of the nomadic peoples of Southeast Africa are on display through July 9 at the Cannon Art Gallery, 1775 Dove Lane, Carlsbad. The exhibit includes carved Zulu walking sticks, beaded Ndebele fertility dolls, Xhosa costumes, fringed skirts and marriage belts along with church hats, Nguni puppets, animal-shaped Tsonga snuff containers and ceramic sculptures. “Howe-Orme: Forgotten Voices Remembered:” An exhibit of historic mandolins, mandolas and guitars at the Museum of Making Music will highlight innovative luthier designs of the late 1800s.
