Encinitas spotlight

The North Coast Singers is accepting new members for fall.

The group includes 150 boys and girls in second through 12th grade in four ensembles. Weekly rehearsals are held in Encinitas.

The North Coast Singers perform throughout Southern California with two major concerts a year. The advanced ensembles have appeared with the San Diego Symphony and the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus.

The singers have participated in performance tours to New York and Italy. Next month they will participate in the Mozart Youth Choral Festival in Salzburg and Vienna, Austria, and in Prague, Czech Republic.

Auditions will be June 6 and 9. Call chorus manager Miel Burnett at (760) 944-1866 for information or to schedule an audition.

Wildlife Assist: An emergency response organization for wildlife in trouble needs volunteers to rescue and transport orphaned, ill and injured wildlife. Teen Actors Workshop: at A 10-week summer session for students ages 12 through 17 begins June 14 at the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA, 200 Saxony Road. Class meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. Cost: members $150, nonmembers $190. To register, call (760) 635-8720.

Book signing: Broadcaster Bob Chandler will sign and discuss the baseball book he co-authored with Bill Swank, “Tales of the Padres,” at 7 p.m. June 16 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 1040 El Camino Real, Encinitas. (760) 943-6406.

Ceramics Camp: For the 20th year, Carla Funk will lead camps in clay works. Camps are for children age 6 through 14 and meet at a private residence in Encinitas. Sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. Cost: $150. Subjects include the pottery wheel, glazing, mosaics and color mixing and painting. (760) 943-6313.

Pool players: The Encinitas Community and Senior Center has a club for players 50 and older and features two pool tables. Club meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays. There will be a tournament July 20. Free. (760) 943-2250.
