Poway spotlight

May 25, 2006

What started as a modest effort among the men's ministry at Christian Life Assembly Church has grown into a major bake-fest for Marines and Navy personnel in Iraq.

Members of Christian Life Assembly plan to send 1,000 dozen cookies to U.S. forces serving in Iraq. Many of the cookies are given to children in Iraq as a goodwill gesture.

The cookies will be shipped in care packages with personal letters, cards, children's drawings and hard candy. Last year the congregation baked and shipped more than 700 dozen treats.

Church members will be baking cookies from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7909, 12342 Old Pomerado Road. The public is welcome to attend or to donate cookies to add to the shipment.
