CRIME WATCH: NORTH COASTAL EDITION
Worker hit during attempted carjacking

November 2, 2006

RAMONA – A Blockbuster employee was punched in the face during an attempted carjacking outside the Main Street store Tuesday night, sheriff's Sgt. Dave Brown said.

The 19-year-old employee left his keys in the ignition of his car when he ran back inside the Ramona store, and a thief got into the driver's seat.

The employee ran back and tried to open the driver's side door when another man punched him in the face.

A sheriff's deputy patrolling the parking lot at 11:40 p.m. interrupted the carjacking and chased the suspects.

He arrested one that night, and tracked down the two others the next morning.

The three suspects, all 18, were booked into San Diego central jail.

Check-cashing store employee robbed

OCEANSIDE – An employee of a check-cashing store was driven around the city at gunpoint yesterday by a robber who hopped into her car, Oceanside police said.

The woman, 28, was at a stoplight on Mission Avenue and Horne Street at 10:15 a.m. when a man jumped into the front seat and told her to shut up and drive, police said.

He pointed a gun at her and ordered her to drive south on Interstate 5 and then east on state Route 78.

When they exited at Jefferson Street, he demanded a bank bag with cash inside and then ran away.

He is described as black, in his mid-20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds and medium build with a goatee. He was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and jeans.

OCEANSIDE – Two teens sitting in a parked car were robbed at gunpoint by a man and woman Tuesday night, Oceanside police said.

The two 17-year-old boys were sitting in a car on Tiberon Drive at 9:10 p.m. when the pair approached them and stole their wallets, car keys and car stereo equipment, police said.

The teens then were told to walk away from the car.

Soon after, officers arrested a woman, 20, matching the suspect's description as she walked on Los Mochis Way.
