Jeff Withey, a 7-foot center who led Horizon High to the state Division IV title last year as a sophomore, has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Louisville for 2008.
Withey, who caught the attention of high school basketball fans by outplaying twin 7-foot brothers Brook and Robin Lopez of San Joaquin Memorial High in the SoCal Regional final, averaged 12.2 points, 12 rebounds and 6.5 blocked shots per game.
According to Panthers coach Waheed Mitchell, Withey felt most comfortable with Louisville. He also received scholarship offers from Kansas, Georgetown and Kentucky.
The high school basketball season begins Nov. 22.
