The El Cajon Community Development Corp. is hosting a six-week series of Saturday morning “Lend-a-Hand” neighborhood cleanup days. The series continues Saturday at Chambers Street and West Park Avenue in El Cajon. Cleanup will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Information: (619) 401-8858.

City of La Mesa Appreciation Day: Individuals and families are invited to come to a La Mesa neighborhood park at 8 a.m. Saturday, and sign up with an adopt-a-park volunteer to help pick up trash and do raking, trimming and weeding. Bring your own gloves, rakes and towels. All ages are welcome. Download and complete the required waiver at the city's Web site and bring it with you. Soroptimist International of Alpine is accepting applications for the organization's Violet Richardson award. The award recognizes young women who volunteer in the community. Application deadline is Dec. 1. Information: (619) 445-2398.

Mama's Kitchen's annual “Mama's Pie In The Sky” event is under way. Pumpkin, pecan and apple pies are being sold throughout the county for $20 each. Pies are baked and donated by local chefs. All proceeds benefit Mama's Kitchen, which provides free, home-delivered meals to those affected by HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses. Heritage of the Americas Museum will host a fundraiser from 5:30 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the museum, on the Cuyamaca College campus in Rancho San Diego. More than 35 paintings by artist Jack Jordan will be for sale. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the museum. Information: (619) 670-5194.

An SDSU professor and expert on Middle Eastern history will speak on “Religious Conflicts in the Middle East” at the La Mesa Kiwanis Club meeting at noon tomorrow. The public is welcome.
