CRIME WATCH: CITY EDITION
Fight results in stabbing, arrest

November 2, 2006

HILLCREST – Two men, one wearing a dress, got into a fight that sent one to the hospital with a serious stab wound and the other to jail last night, San Diego police said.

The wounded man started to drive away and his car struck a woman who was with the other man. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of a back injury.

The fight broke out about 10:10 p.m. at Park Boulevard and Upas Street, Sgt. Rich Nemetz said. The cause of the dispute wasn't known, Nemetz said.

Officers were told the man in the dress was struck with a metal pipe, and he stabbed his opponent under an arm, puncturing his lung.

The wounded man drove off in a brown Volvo and was pulled over by officers at Florida Street and University Avenue. Police confiscated the pipe and a knife at the scene of the fight and arrested the man suspected in the stabbing.

The victim suffered serious head injuries in the 10 p.m. assault on Nodica Avenue.

San Diego police said the assault began after the victim and three others were driving around looking for a party and their car windshield was shattered by a brick.

The victim leaned out the window to see what happened and was struck by someone who was swinging a bat in the street and uttered a gang challenge, police said.
