Rain link: Sprinkles make ground shake

German geologists, monitoring swarms of tiny tremors in Bavaria, found that a little bit of rain can change water pressure in porous rocks enough to set off an earthquake.

From studying ancient mineral grains, researchers at the University of North Carolina have learned that the Amazon, the world's largest river basin, once flowed in the opposite direction – from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific.
