El Cajon boy given honor for 911 call
The boy made the right call.
And then some.
Kenny Hartaway, 6, called 911 to get help for his mother, a diabetic, who was having a seizure.
For that, the El Cajon youth was among those being honored yesterday by the “911 for Kids, Local Heroes” program, which recognizes children who save lives or report crimes by calling 911.
The ceremony took place in Irvine.
Kenny was one cool customer. He remained calm throughout the phone call, gave key information to the dispatcher and watched over his 3-year-old brother.
Since being established in 1999, “911 for Kids” has honored hundreds of children for using the emergency call service to do the remarkable.
Kenny was nominated by the El Cajon Police Department.

Town-hall meeting set for residents
LA MESA – Residents are invited to share their ideas about the city at a town-hall meeting tomorrow.
The meeting will give elected leaders a chance to talk with residents in a less-formal setting, city officials said. It's scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at Parkway Middle School, 9009 Park Plaza Drive. A second meeting is planned for Jan. 30.
The city has held community summits in the past, but these are its first town-hall meetings. Residents can weigh in on the kinds of programs and services they want, as well as issues they think are important to the community.
Residents will be asked to fill out a brief survey. City Council members will attend. Other city officials will also be on hand to explain what their departments do and answer questions.
