CRIME WATCH: NORTH EDITION
Deaths of husband, wife investigated

December 3, 2006

OCEANSIDE – Police yesterday were investigating an apparent murder-suicide of a husband and wife that was reported by a relative Friday afternoon.

The 73-year-old woman was identified by the county medical examiner yesterday as Bernadine Griffin, but the 77-year-old man's name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

Oceanside police responded to a call about 2:40 p.m. Friday from another location about a domestic disturbance at the couple's home on Cinnamon Way near Mesa Drive, police Sgt. Leonard Mata said.

When officers arrived, they found the husband and wife dead inside the house. Both had apparent gunshot wounds, and the husband's wound appeared to have been self-inflicted, Mata said. The case was still being investigated yesterday, he said.
