Robbers make woman empty bank account

December 3, 2006

KEARNY MESA – Two men with a gun frightened a 33-year-old woman into emptying her bank account and bringing them the cash last night, police said.

The woman called San Diego police at 5:15 p.m. from the Wal-Mart on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard near Interstate 805, saying she had been kidnapped and robbed.

She told officers that two hours earlier, she was getting out of her pickup at the Wal-Mart when two men forced her back in the truck at gunpoint. One of the kidnappers drove her and his companion around Kearny Mesa for two hours, then stopped at the Bank of America on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard near state Route 163.

The men sat in the pickup while the woman withdrew $1,500 from her account and got a credit card cash advance of $6,000, police said. When she gave the kidnappers the cash, they left on foot and she drove back to Wal-Mart.

She described one kidnapper as Latino, in his 50s, 5 feet 7 inches tall with gray hair. The other man was said to be white, in his 20s, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 200 pounds, with blond hair.

Gunman shoots into vehicle; one dead

JAMUL – One person was shot and killed and another slightly wounded when someone fired shots into their vehicle on Skyline Trucktrail last night, authorities said.

Sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers searched the area around Wisecarver Lane for a middle-aged gunman in camouflage clothes and carrying an assault rifle. He was believed to be driving a white Ford pickup with a sign similar to a hazardous materials placard on the side.

A man called 911 on a cell phone about 8:30 p.m., reaching the CHP dispatch center, to report that someone was shooting at him while he was driving, CHP Officer Rob Sanchez said.
