Violent purse snatcher uses a getaway truck

CHULA VISTA – Police were looking for a man who slugged a woman in the face before taking her purse Monday night in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

The robbery happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Broadway near Naples Street, Chula Vista police said.

The victim told police the assailant jumped from a green Ford F-150 pickup, hit her, grabbed her purse and jumped back into the truck driven by another man. The woman suffered minor injuries.

Blaze damages 2 houses; couple escape danger

SAN DIEGO – Fire burned two Two houses were damaged by a fire in Allied Gardens early yesterday, Wednesday that caused causing an estimated $700,000 in damage and displacing displaced two people.

Firefighters were called to a Deerwood Court home just before 4:45 a.m. to find the garage and a storage unit in front of the home in flames, said San Diego fire spokesman Maurice Luque. The blaze fire spread to the roof of the house and charred a home next door, Luque said. The couple who lived at the home and their dog escaped without injury.There were no injuries. Investigators determined the fire started in a washing machine in the garage.

Crews make quick work of a burning apartment

LAKESIDE – A fire is under investigation after damaging a Winter Gardens Boulevard apartment yesterday, fire officials said.

The blaze broke out in a second-floor bedroom about 3:40 p.m. Lakeside and El Cajon fire crews doused most of the flames within 10 minutes, a Heartland fire dispatcher said.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $6,500.
