The San Diego Union-Tribune

FROM THE EDITOR
A better regional section

February 8, 2007

Dear Readers,

This week we bring you an improved Metro section, aimed at better organizing and packaging stories with your busy lives in mind.

Information from East and South counties and the city of San Diego will be housed together under the name “Our Region.” Your local stories will still be there, but arranged according to what's most important and readable, including stories from North County.

This shift away from segregated geographic sections is intended to reflect everyone's increasingly regional lifestyles. We hope you'll find that the stories are packaged in an easy-to-navigate way and given regional context and relevance.

The new Page 2 pulls together in chunks news of crime, fires, accidents, general-interest topics and fun local facts.

Over the next few weeks, we'll launch new features to give even more value to this section. Look for the Just Fix It column, for example, community watchdog work at its best, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

You've told us what you want in your newspaper. Ease of use. Shorter items about some subjects. And more choices. The re-engineered Metro section gives all that to you and more.

We hope you like the changes and welcome your ideas for further improvement.
