Teacher denies having sex with student

UNION-TRIBUNE

February 8, 2007

SAN DIEGO – A San Diego teacher accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student has pleaded not guilty to felony and misdemeanor charges.

John Kyujoon Lee, 39, now on leave from the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts in Paradise Hills, faces 10 charges, including lewd acts with a child and statutory rape.

If convicted, he could be sent to prison for eight years and four months. He is free on $35,000 bail.

Prosecutors said Lee began an “intimate” relationship with girl, who is now in college, when she was a 15-year-old sophomore at the school. The girl was 16 when the relationship became sexual; she was 18 when the relationship ended, prosecutors said.

Lee pleaded not guilty Monday.
