With competitive soccer tryouts just around the corner (Feb. 19-24), the North County Lightning Soccer Club is holding free skills clinics.
The clinics assess players' soccer skills and give guidance to each participant. Clinics are staffed by professional coaches who have National D licenses or better. They are designed to help young players gain confidence and an understanding of their potential.
Players do not have to be affiliated with Lightning Soccer Club to participate in these free clinics.
The clinics are scheduled as follows:
Boys: All clinics will be at Aviara Park, 6435 Ambrosia Lane in Carlsbad. Call Glenn Malone at (760) 672-8260 for more information. Under 8, under 9 and under 10: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and Feb. 16. Under 11, under 12 and under 13: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Softball teams

Vista Parks and Community Services is accepting adult men's, women's and coed softball registrations.
Prospective teams can submit completed registration packets at Wildwood Community Center, 651 E. Vista Way, or at Brengle Terrace Recreation Center, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive.
Applications also can be faxed to (760) 643-2897, Attn.: Adult Sports.
Placement games will begin the week of March 1.
