Crawford senior zeroing in on area scoring record

Among high school records, basketball's career scoring mark is one of the most glamorous. Yet it has become increasingly difficult to hold. Just one year after Chase Budinger passed Santa Fe Christian's Nick Corso atop the all-time San Diego Section list, topping out at 2,934 points, Crawford's Tyrone Shelley needs just 63 to pass the former La Costa Canyon All-American.

MARANA, Ariz. – Tiger Woods had been in the water, in a cactus, in the bushes. He'd traipsed through the desert looking bewildered and lost. He hit one shot so badly he simply left his ball for dead, to be picked over by the jackrabbits and roadrunners.

Blown tire proves fatal for Oliver Tomlinson, 71

LaDainian Tomlinson's father and a man believed to be Tomlinson's half-brother were killed in a car crash yesterday near Tomlinson's hometown of Waco, Texas. Oliver Tomlinson, 71, was a passenger in a truck driven by Ronald McClain, 49. Tomlinson died at the scene, and McClain died later at an area hospital.

PEORIA, Ariz. – Talking things over this winter at their Texas home, Padres reliever Scott Linebrink and his wife, Kelly, mapped out what awaited Scott when he got to Arizona for spring training. “We figured the media would be asking me about trade rumors,” Linebrink said. “We even made a list of trade questions they would ask.”
