SPRING VALLEY: A man with a bullet wound to his abdomen was found in a Spring Valley apartment just after 9:30 p.m. yesterday.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of shots being fired on Jamacha Road near Gillespie Drive and found the unidentified victim, who was taken to a hospital. Deputies are investigating the shooting.

Would-be victim attacks and injures his assailant
SAN DIEGO: A man turned the tables on one of his would-be attackers and stabbed him late Saturday night, police said.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
The would-be victim was described as being in his early 20s and wearing dark clothing. Police said he was being chased by two others at 10:23 p.m. at 47th Street and Imperial Avenue and stabbed one of them.

Robber fires gun inside store, leaves with money
ENCINITAS: An armed robber held up a grocery-store clerk and fired his weapon yesterday, breaking several liquor bottles. No one was hurt, according to sheriff's deputies.
The robber got away from the Coast Highway Market on Coast Street near A Street with an undisclosed amount of money just before 2 p.m., Sgt. Chuck Yancey said.
He was described as a white or Hispanic male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, medium build, wearing a white T-shirt, khaki jacket, dark pants, white shoes and a green ski mask.
The robber fired a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun, striking several liquor bottles before the bullet penetrated a nearby wall, Yancey said.
Yancey said the clerk was ordered to open the cash drawer and give him all the money. Deputies recovered the bullet and shell casings from the store, he said.

Clerk trying to prevent robbery is beaten by men
SAN MARCOS: When a convenience store clerk tried to prevent a shoplifting, the robbers beat him, dragged him into their SUV and drove two blocks before pushing him out, sheriff's deputies said. The robbers were after beer.
The robbery happened about 12:49 a.m. yesterday at the 7-Eleven at Mulberry Drive and Mission Avenue.
The clerk saw three men in their late teens or early 20s trying to steal beer, jumped over the counter and chased them into the parking lot where a fight ensued, deputies said.
The men grabbed the clerk and forced him into a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe, deputies said. They pushed the clerk out while the vehicle was still moving.
The clerk, who suffered cuts, scrapes and bruises, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Naked cab driver in park spurs police investigation
SAN DIEGO: Police are on the lookout for a naked cab driver spotted yesterday in Balboa Park.
A woman walking through a parking lot near the San Diego Air & Space Museum saw the man in the driver's seat of a Yellow Cab with a towel draped over his lower thighs, police said.
She asked a man at a nearby vendor cart to call police and when the vendor confronted the cabbie, police said, the driver became belligerent and questioned the vendor's authority to interfere.
Police contacted the Yellow Cab Co. where officials agreed to provide information on who leases the cab. It is unknown how many visitors saw the cabbie, and whether he will be charged only with public nudity.

Woman is critical after her car hits school bus
MISSION VALLEY: A woman was in critical condition after she crashed her Mercedes-Benz into a school bus full of adults from a church group last night, San Diego police said.
The crash occurred before 10 p.m. on Hotel Circle when the driver of the Mercedes-Benz allegedly ran through a stop sign into the bus, police said.
Three people on the bus suffered minor injuries, police said.

Man and woman killed in I-805 motorcycle accident
MISSION VALLEY: A man and a woman were killed last night when their motorcycle ran off Interstate 805 in Mission Valley, officials said.
The unidentified victims were traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident happened at about 7 p.m. near southbound Interstate 805, according to San Diego police.
Paramedics found the couple on the road near Camino Del Rio South, officials said. They died at the scene. The crash is under investigation.

Motorcycle wreck victim was N. California woman
ESCONDIDO: The woman killed in a motorcycle accident near Lake Wohlford Court over the weekend has been identified as Debra Lynn Middleton, 49, of Wheatland in Northern California, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.
Escondido police said a passing motorist called in the accident at about noon Saturday. Middleton's body was found 50 feet off the road. Officers believe she lost control of her motorcycle as she tried to make a turn.

Stricken border crosser rescued by authorities
EAST COUNTY: Border Patrol agents, aided by a sheriff's helicopter unit, rescued a suspected illegal border crosser from a canyon yesterday after he became dehydrated and could not walk.
The 31-year-old man was one of seven suspected illegal border crossers found in Secret Canyon near Interstate 8 and Japatul Road at 8:15 a.m., Border Patrol spokesman Matthew Johnson said.
A sheriff's helicopter picked up the stricken man and took him to a waiting ambulance at about 11 a.m., Johnson said. The remaining six border crosserswere taken into custody.
