Consumers' rights worth fighting for

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

May 21, 2007

Digital technology has changed the way people create, organize and use photos, videos and other works of art. Whether people will be able to use those digital files as they like remains an unanswered question.

Lawsuits by major recording labels, studios and distributors of film, video, music and other creative works continue to threaten the future of digital media use. The Digital Freedom Campaign (www.digitalfreedom.org) is fighting to protect consumers' ability to use digital media when, where and how they choose.

The campaign isn't about piracy, but about protecting the rights of individuals to record and listen to digital broadcasts as they wish. The DFCis fighting to protect your ability to use your digital video recorder, music player and satellite radio service as you choose.

It's also about giving people the confidence and security that they won't face legal threats or lawsuits because they're using digital technology in their homes.

Visit the site for its Bill of Rights and to read the “Abuse of the Month” story, and sign a petition.
