    Effervescent opera star left a memorable mark in San Diego

    She was opera's most outgoing diva, a bubbly redhead who seemed equally at home singing masterworks at the Metropolitan Opera or joking with Kermit the Frog. As an opera star, company administrator and musical advocate, Beverly Sills helped popularize, and humanize, a lofty art form.
