What's Inside

Play time

A light has gone on for the Chargers' '06 first-round draft choice in the past four games, an epiphany he ascribes to learning how to watch film

STAFF WRITER

For those few humans on this planet who have athletic talent the rest of us cannot explain and can only partially believe, amazing feats are accomplished once the game slows down. This is what has happened for Antonio Cromartie over the past month, a span of four games in which he has scored three touchdowns and intercepted six passes.

    AZTECS FOOTBALL
Has SDSU improved? Final stretch will show

    STAFF WRITER

From a surface point of view, this year's San Diego State football team appears to be better than last year's. Last year, SDSU was 3-9 and forced to play almost seven games without starting quarterback Kevin O'Connell, who was injured.

      TOREROS FOOTBALL
Johnson is calm in the pocket against the blitzing naysayers

Josh Johnson is 21 years old, and has never shaved. Some facial hair has finally sprouted from the USD quarterback's cherubic chin, but Johnson has not yet attained sufficient scruffiness to reach for a razor. This is in keeping with an across-the-board attitude of unhurried anticipation.

Padres talk extension with Peavy as Cy awaits

        STAFF WRITER

Padres ace Jake Peavy will receive the National League Cy Young Award today – and a contract extension in coming weeks isn't out of the question for the 26-year-old right-hander.

          TOREROS WOMEN'S SOCCER
Greenwood has Toreros six wins from NCAA title

          STAFF WRITER

Ada Greenwood arrived in the United States in the summer of 1991 to work at the Two Rivers Soccer Camp in Lake Tahoe. He came from Southend-on-Sea, an English coastal burg due east of London known for the world's longest pleasure pier extending 1 1/3 miles over the murky waters of the Thames Estuary. He was 19. He had $200 in his pocket.
