20th Annual Mainly Mozart Festival

February 17, 2008

June 10 (7 p.m.) at the Balboa Theatre, 868 Fourth Ave., Gaslamp Quarter. All-Beethoven concert conducted by David Atherton with pianist John Lill. Beethoven's Piano Concertos Nos. 1-5.

June 12 (8 p.m.) at Balboa. Orchestra and chamber music, with Atherton conducting and cellist Ronald Thomas. Mozart's Divertimento in B-Flat Major and Symphony in D Major, K. 196/121; Strauss' “Piano Quartet” in C Minor; Tchaikovsky's “Variations on a Rococo Theme.”

June 13 (8 p.m.) at Balboa. Piano recital, with John Lill. Haydn's Piano Sonata in E-Flat Major; Schumann's “Carnaval”; Mozart's Fantasy in C Minor, K. 475; Liszt's Piano Sonata in B Minor.

Festival subscriptions range from $70 to $780 depending upon package.

Single tickets are $20 to $100 for the June 12-21 concerts at the Balboa Theatre. Tickets are $25 to $125 for the all-Beethoven program on June 10.

The June 20 program in Tijuana is $35, with tickets available through Cecut (011-52-664-687-9600, ext. 9581). Seats are $25 for the June 22 performance in Escondido.

June 14 (8 p.m.) at Balboa. Orchestra and chamber music, with Atherton conducting and clarinetist Michael Collins. Strauss' Sextet from “Capriccio”; Schubert's “Piano Quintet” in A Major (“The Trout”); Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 1; Mozart's Symphony No. 39.

June 15 (2 p.m.) at Balboa. Violin and piano sonata, with violinist Martin Chalifour and pianist Joanne Pearce-Martin. Mozart's Violin Sonata No. 22 in A Major; Schubert's Two Waltzes in A Minor and D Major; Strauss' Violin Sonata in E-Flat Major; Ravel's Violin Sonata in G Major; Kreisler's “Londonderry Air,” “La Gitana”, “Tambourin Chinois” and “Syncopation.”

June 17 (8 p.m.) at Balboa. Orchestra and chamber music, with Atherton conducting, clarinetist Collins, bassoonist Steven Dibner, and pianists Jeremy Denk, Adam Neiman, and Anton Nel. Saint-Saëns' Septet in E-Flat Major; Strauss' “Duet-Concertino”; Ravel's “Introduction and Allegro”; Mozart's Concerto for Three Pianos in F Major, K. 242.

June 19 (8 p.m.) at Balboa. Orchestra and chamber music, with Atherton conducting and oboist Nathan Hughes. Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp; Brahms' “Horn Trio” in E-Flat Major; Strauss' Oboe Concerto; Mozart's Symphony No. 31 in D Major, K. 297 (“Paris”).

June 20 (8 p.m.) at Centro Cultural Tijuana (Cecut), Paseo de los Heroes & Mina, Zona Rio, Tijuana. Orchestra concert, with Atherton conducting and oboist Hughes. Mozart's Serenade No. 10 in B-Flat Major, K. 361 (fourth movement) and Symphony No. 31, K. 297 (“Paris”); Strauss' Oboe Concerto.

June 20 (8 p.m.) at Balboa. Piano recital, with pianists Denk and Neiman. Includes Mozart's Sonata in C Major, K. 521 (duet); Strauss' Piano Sonata in B Minor (with Neiman); Berg's Piano Sonata (with Denk); Rachmaninoff's “Symphonic Dances” (two pianos).

June 21 (8 p.m.) at Balboa. Orchestra concert, with Atherton conducting. Mozart's Serenade No. 10 in B-Flat Major, K. 361; Strauss' Suite from “Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme.”

June 22 (2 p.m.) at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, 340 N. Escondido Blvd., Escondido. Chamber music, with musicians including violinist William Preucil, French horn player Julie Landsman and violist Che-Yen Chen. Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp; Brahms' “Horn Trio” in E-Flat Major.
