OUT WITH THE OLD

What to do with that old TV that still works? Go to the Consumer Electronics Association Web site, mygreenelectronics.org, which lists charities and community programs that accept them.

COLOR ME BLUE ... OR RED

Things can get a bit boring when it comes to water. Why not change things up a little bit and put some color in your life?

LED faucet lights from ThinkGeek attach to the end of your faucet, and universal adapters are included. When the water is turned on and flows through the “magic chamber,” it turns on the LED array and illuminates the stream with soothingly powerful hues.

Two types are available: Blue only runs blue while the blue/red will change from blue to red when the water temperature hits 89 degrees. The blue faucet retails for $13 and the combo is $20. Batteries are pre-installed plus a set of spare G13-A style watch batteries are also included.

For more information, call (888) 433-5788 (GEEKSTUFF), or visit thinkgeek.com.

SPRING KITCHEN UPDATE

It's hard to hide a kitchen from view, especially if you're entertaining. Your guests always want to hang out with the cook, even if the cabinets are drab, the flooring dull and the appliances date back to – horrors! – the 20th century.

If you plan to replace this eyesore with a kitchen up to date in style and convenience, you'll want to save March 22 for the 2008 Spring Kitchen Tour sponsored by the San Diego chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

This self-guided tour of eight recently remodeled kitchens spotlights style – and problem solving, like how to minimize a low ceiling, find space for collectibles, and update a look without breaking the bank. The kitchens stretch from Escondido and Rancho Peñasquitos south to Carmel Valley, Clairemont and Coronado and east to El Cajon.

Many of today's top trends – new storage solutions, “green” products and furniture-style cabinetry – will be on view too. Plus the designers will be on hand to answer questions about each remodel.

Tour hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $25 if purchased by March 21; event-day tickets are $30. They are available at Design Studio West, 7422 Girard Ave., La Jolla; Studio Q Interiors, 425 10th Ave., San Diego; and San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles, 4577 Viewridge Ave., San Diego.

Tickets also can be ordered by mail until March 13. Send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to ASID, 4010 Morena Blvd., Suite 102, San Diego, CA 92117.

For more information, call the ASID information line at (858) 646-9896 or visit ASIDSanDiego.org.
