SAN DIEGO – History shows it is extremely rare for a police officer involved in a shooting to be charged with a crime in San Diego County. Convictions are even more rare. Only two local police officers have been criminally charged for shooting people while on duty in the past 25 years, and both men were acquitted by juries.

Get an e-mail from IRS? It's a ploy to rip you off

As April 15 rolls around, so do those pesky e-mails from the IRS. Wait, did I say e-mails from the IRS? But the IRS doesn't send unsolicited e-mails  . . Kelly Engelman of Chula Vista recently received one, though. It had a return address of tax@refund.irs.gov and an intriguing headline: “Get Tax Refund on your VISA or MasterCard.”
