Navy Moto X World Championships

April 12, 2008

Today's schedule

SuperMoto (noon): A multisurface race that includes sections of asphalt (in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot), dirt and a section of several smaller motocross jumps and washboard whoops on the stadium floor. Field: Includes former Supercross/motocross champion and Indy 500 driver Jeff Ward, former X Games SuperMoto champion Mark Burkhart, Micky Dymond and Heath Voss.

Best Trick (1 p.m.): Twelve riders take two jumps apiece and are judged for the overall difficulty and execution of their midair tricks. Field: Led by former X Games gold medalist Kenny Bartram and X Games medalists Nate Adams of Carlsbad and Mat Rebeaud.

Step Up (2 p.m.): Motorcycle pole vault. Each of the five finalists tries to clear a bar that is set 26 to 28 feet off the ground for the first round. The bar will be raised in 6-inch increments. Field: Four-time X Games champion Tommy Clowers of Santee, 10-time X Games medalist Brian Deegan, two-time X Games gold medalist Matt Buyten, all-time Supercross/motocross wins leader Ricky Carmichael and former X Games champion Ronnie Renner of Fallbrook.

Speed & Style (3 p.m.): Half timed racing and half freestyle tricks. Riders will go in pairs side-by-side in heats that resemble drag racing. Field: 11-time X Games medalist Travis Pastrana, Adams, Renner, San Diego native Jeremy Stenberg and Bartram.
