General Motors has set the base price of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS at $22,995, including the $660 destination charge. The vehicle will arrive in dealer showrooms late this month.
The coupe is powered by a turbocharged, 260-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The only transmission offered is a five-speed manual. Other standard equipment includes air conditioning, Pioneer sound system, remote keyless entry, 18-inch wheels and Continental performance tires, electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes.
Acceleration from 0-60 mph is about 5.7 seconds, GM said, “thanks to the engine's 'no-lift shift' calibration.”
Performance enhancements include Brembo front disc brakes and vented rear disc brakes and a sport suspension that can be set by the driver for street or track driving.
