HIGH SCHOOL VOICES
Teens must stay strong in face of peer pressure

STEELE CANYON HIGH SCHOOL

May 10, 2008

Peer pressure is everywhere. Most teens are affected by it, and it's mostly negative. Being a teenager, you are easily convinced to try things your friends may do, or what the people who are considered “cool” do. Some pressures include letting someone cheat by copying your paper, or using alcohol when you are underage.

People of all ages feel that if they are not accepted, they will not be respected or will be known as a boring person. Teenagers and other people in today's society need to remember that we can make our own choices and be strong and independent. We don't need to fit in by doing what other people do. We need to stand out and be different because the decisions we make will affect what we do later on in life.

Elyse Verhove is a freshman at Steele Canyon High School in Rancho San Diego.
