 Former All-Star closer Derrick Turnbow accepted a minor league assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers.


 The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired outfielder Jason Michaels and cash from the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named.  Washington's Elijah Dukes returned from the disabled list after injuring his hamstring on Opening Day.

  Before the Reds-Mets game was postponed, Cincinnati slugger Ken Griffey Jr. was pulled from the starting lineup because of an illness.

 New York's Alex Rodriguez (strained right quadriceps) took 57 swings in batting practice and fielded 31 grounders at third base during his first injury rehab workout at the Yankees' minor league complex.
