RB's Mattoon sets record in girls pole vault

UNION-TRIBUNE

May 10, 2008

Rancho Bernardo's Emily Mattoon set the San Diego Section record in the girls pole vault last night, clearing 12 feet, 10 inches at the Palomar League track championships at Mt. Carmel High.

The RB junior pushed her sister, Kate, to No. 2 on the section list. Kate set the previous best of 12-9 in 2005.

Emily Mattoon cleared 13 feet last year, but it was in a dual meet. In order for a record to be considered, there must be at least four teams participating.

Poway's Tynan Murray moved to No. 1 in the state this year when he scaled 7 feet, ½ inch in the high jump, the No. 2 mark in section history.
