OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program
Need: Volunteers to help children in kindergarten through fourth grade with their reading skills.
Site: Various Chula Vista elementary schools.
Minimum time: One hour a week. Training session is from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Jan. 17 at Chula Vista Elementary School District, 84 E. J St., Chula Vista.

Chula Vista Public Library
Need: bookstore and shelving assistance; help with material processing, bar-coding and clerical work; and children's events and program planning.
Site: Civic Center branch, 365 F St., Chula Vista; South Chula Vista branch, 389 Orange Ave., Chula Vista; and Eastlake branch, 1120 Eastlake Parkway, Chula Vista.

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center Auxiliary
Need: Volunteers needed for a variety of positions throughout the hospital, including help in the gift shop and “Back Door Bargains” thrift shop as well as drivers for the Sharp shuttle.
Site: 751 Medical Center Court, Chula Vista.
Minimum time: Three to four hours per week.

Winners Circle Equestrian Therapy
Need: Volunteers for grooming horses, walking, assisting instructors, general help. Must be at least 16.
Site: Winners Circle Ranch, 2974 Equitation Lane, Bonita.
Minimum time: Flexible. Four-to six-month commitment required.

County of San Diego Department of Animal Services
Need: Volunteers 18 and older for animal companionship through exercising and socialization. Other opportunities available as well.
Site: County Shelter at 5821 Sweetwater Road, Bonita.
Minimum time: Hours are flexible. Volunteers must submit an application and attend orientation and training before volunteering.

National City Public Library, Literacy Services
Need: Volunteers older than 18 to work one-on-one with adults who want to improve their English reading and writing skills. Volunteers must have a high school diploma and a good working knowledge of English. Free tutor training is provided.

Minimum time: Two to three hours a week for six months.

Need: Volunteers to work in the gift shop, office support, arts and crafts, maintenance, gardens and more.

Senior Volunteer Patrol of the ChulaVista Police Department
Need: Volunteers to patrol with a partner to enforce handicapped parking regulations, conduct vacation home security checks, visit homebound seniors and provide fingerprinting for children. Volunteers must be at least 50 years old.
Site: All areas of Chula Vista.
Minimum time: One six-hour shift per week.

Senior Volunteer Patrol of the San Diego Police Department Southern Division
Need: Volunteers needed for traffic control, visits to those who live alone and other duties. Must have valid California driver's license, speak English (although other languages a plus); must be at least 50 years old. Uniforms provided.
Site: Otay Mesa, Egger Highlands, Nestor and San Ysidro
Minimum time: One shift per week; hours vary.
