It was a cloudy night for ace Jake Peavy and the Padres even before Reds slugger Adam Dunn launched Trevor Hoffman's ninth-inning fastball 400 feet for a home run that sent last-place San Diego to another defeat, 3-2, at rain-soaked Petco Park last night. Peavy, who is on the disabled list, learned early in the evening that his right elbow isn't progressing as he had hoped.

INDIANAPOLIS – They were called the Young Guns, a talented group of drivers who arrived on the NASCAR scene between five and seven seasons ago. Their numbers were led by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin. They created excitement around stock car racing and became an important part of the sport's growth.
