Gender: Maternal diet

Maternal diet influences the chances of sheep having male or female offspring, according to a University of Missouri study. Ewes fed a diet enriched with polyunsaturated fats for one month before conception had a significantly higher chance of giving birth to male offspring.

SLEEP STUDY: LATER IS BETTER


Delaying an adolescent's school start time by one hour improves cognitive performance, Israeli researchers report. In a study of 47 eighth-graders, those who started school later slept later and performed better on tests than a control group who started school earlier. The study recommended that adolescents get nine hours of sleep each night.
