AL Chatter

June 26, 2008

NOTABLE

Baltimore starter Matt Albers had to leave his spot start against the Chicago Cubs in the first inning last night because of discomfort in his right shoulder. Albers was pressed into the starting role because lefty Brian Burres was ill.

Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero was held out of the lineup, a day after he left a game with flulike symptoms.

Reliever Yasuhiko Yabuta, signed by the Kansas City Royals to a two-year, $6 million contract in the offseason, was optioned to Triple-A Omaha with a 1-3 record and a 5.46 ERA after 26 relief appearances.

The Tampa Bay Rays withdrew a proposal to have a public vote on a plan to build a $450 million waterfront ballpark and announced formation of a coalition of political and business leaders to explore ways to broaden support for a new stadium.

BY THE NUMBERS

2½ Hours, length of rain delay in Detroit before Tigers beat Cardinals 8-7.

WHO'S HOT

Carl Crawford

Tampa Bay's left fielder homers twice, collecting five RBI, with second homer launching a 10-run inning vs. Marlins.

Miguel Batista

Mariners starter hurts own cause with five walks, chased after giving up eight runs (four earned) in 2 2/3 innings.

QUOTABLE

“Fifteen runs in a game, it's a little easier to pitch that way. I'll take that every game.”

– Tampa Bay starter
