OCEAN BEACH FEST

The 29th annual Ocean Beach Festival & Chili Cook-Off will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday with five stages of entertainment, an artists' alley, a beachside beer garden, skateboarding, a kids' wonderland and, of course, plenty of chili. Festivities will take place on Newport Avenue (between Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and Abbott Street), Cable Street (between Niagara and Santa Monica avenues), Bacon Street (between Niagara and Santa Monica avenues) and Abbott Street (between Newport and Santa Monica avenues). BLOCK PARTY

The City of Refuge International Block Party will celebrate families and promote community from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on Dewey Street, between Oceanview Boulevard and Harrison Street, in Logan Heights. CANOE RACE

Contestants from California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Hawaii will compete in the 23rd annual Kai Elua Ironman Outrigger Canoe Race from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Mariner's Point in Mission Bay Park. Information: (619) 781-7430 or kaielua.org.mberl

TRIATHLON

The 25th annual Wells Fargo International Triathlon will offer two courses for individuals and one for relay teams. The Sprint Course will have a 500-meter swim, 20K cycle ride and a six-mile run. The International Course will be a 1,000-meter swim, 30K cycle ride and a 10K run. Proceeds will benefit the homeless in San Diego. Competition will be from 6:45 to 11:45 a.m. Sunday and costs $80 (individual for Sprint Course), $90 (individual for International Course) or $100 (relay team for International Course). ARTS FESTIVAL

Award-winning artists and international cuisine will be featured at the La Jolla Festival of the Arts and Food Faire, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Regents Road and Genesee Avenue. Information: (858) 586-1202 or lajollaartfestival.org.

BEST OF THE REST

Loews Coronado Bay Resort will hold its third annual Surf Dog Competition from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday north of the pier in Imperial Beach at 106 Carnation Ave. Recognized as the largest event of its kind, the competition last year included 47 dogs and drew more than 1,000 spectators.
