NATIONAL CITY: The city has authorized the purchase of a $334,352 mobile command vehicle for the Police Department using grant and asset forfeiture funds.
The vehicle will be used by police, fire and other emergency officials to maneuver during disasters and major traffic problems. It will contain telecommunications equipment, including phone capability, computer connections and map storage.
The vehicle also will have a table and seating, a kitchen, restroom, generators and an observation platform with railing that also will hold a satellite dish and antennas.
The City Council approved the purchase last week. The city's old vehicle was purchased in 1984 and wasn't reliable, City Manager Chris Zapata said.
“This is a significant upgrade for us,” Zapata said.
The city will pay for the vehicle with $178,478 in law enforcement grants and the rest with the Police Department Asset Forfeiture funds. The city expects to receive the vehicle in one year.

Summer job advice today at youth fair
SAN DIEGO: A Youth Resource Fair will be conducted from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the South Metro Career Center, 4389 Imperial Ave. Participants will receive resources and work-readiness advice for finding summer employment.
“There has been a strong request from the youth to provide more opportunities for them to connect with employers,” said Angela Webb, summer youth coordinator for the Workforce Partnership. “Most employers who hire youth do so by the end of May. Though the summer hiring rush is over, we do expect a limited number of employers to attend. However, this event will provide many other resources to support youth who are continuing their summer job search.”
Sponsors of the event include Overcoming Gangs and Beyond, Second Chance Strive, Jackie Robinson YMCA, the South Metro Career Center, Inner City Youth of San Diego and the San Diego Workforce Partnership.
