The San Diego Watercolor Society presents an exhibition of original watercolor paintings, “Red, White & Blue.” The Juror is SDWS member and teacher Linda Doll. Approximately 100 paintings created by SDWS members are on display and for sale. SDWS gallery is in Liberty Station at the NTC Promenade in Point Loma. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free. The public is welcome to the first Friday reception tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. Information: (619) 876-4550 or sdws.org.
The exotic playground of such intriguing creatures as garibaldi, lobsters and octopuses will be on view during a “Snorkel La Jolla Cove” adventure sponsored by the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Swim with schooling leopard sharks, smoothhound sharks and guitarfish in the mild surf off La Jolla Shores in a “Snorkel with Sharks” program from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday. Summer Concert at Bird Park Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. the band A Scribe Amidst the Lions will perform a blend of alternative rock music. The park (northeast corner of Balboa Park bordered by Upas Street, 28th Street, Pershing Drive and Redwood Drive) has a playground and wheelchair access. Information: (619) 284-0156.
Today at 10 a.m. Fausto Palafox of Mission Hills Nursery will hang the first of 20 floral baskets that will adorn the commercial intersections near Washington and Goldfinch Streets in Mission Hills. The baskets, a joint community project of the Mission Hills Town Council Business Enhancement Committee and the Mission Hills Garden Club, will be changed seasonally. The baskets are funded by a grant from the Mission Hills Garden Club. At 5 p.m., a redone play area will be dedicated in Pioneer Park in Mission Hills. The play equipment contains areas for both pre-kindergarten and older children.

The San Diego Blood Bank will accept donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Pat & Oscar's, 10673 Westview Parkway, Mira Mesa. The bloodmobile will be parked in the parking lot. Anyone who is at least 17 years old, in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds may be eligible to give blood. A good meal is recommended prior to donation.
