WASHINGTON – The government said yesterday that it is calling off a recently announced moratorium on applications to build solar plants on public lands.
The Bureau of Land Management made the announcement after public opposition to its original decision.
The BLM had wanted to put new applications on hold while undertaking a comprehensive review of potential environmental effects from such plants.

Mosquitoes swarm sodden Midwest
CHICAGO – First came the floods – now the mosquitoes. An explosion of pesky insects is pestering cleanup crews and just about anyone venturing outside in the waterlogged Midwest.
In some parts of Iowa there are 20 times the normal number of mosquitoes, and in Chicago up to five times more than usual.

Missing Vermont girl's body found
BETHEL, Vt. – The body of a missing 12-year-old Vermont girl was found yesterday, hours after court documents were unsealed that accused her uncle of planning to initiate her into a child sex ring, authorities said.
Brooke Bennett's body was found near her uncle's home, said Col. James Baker, State Police director.
The girl's uncle, Michael Jacques, who has been in custody since Sunday on sexual-assault charges involving another underage girl, is to be charged with kidnapping, police Sgt. Tara Thomas said.
