Artist Owen Mundy will speak at 6 p.m. tomorrow, California Center for the Arts, Escondido Museum, 340 N. Escondido Blvd. His work looks at the transformation of men through military basic training. Free.

FIREWORKS CELEBRATIONS

The park opens at 7 a.m. tomorrow with a day of family activities, food booths and a display of vintage military equipment. Musical entertainment is scheduled from 3:15 to 10 p.m., featuring Rising Star. A fundraising barbecue will precede the fireworks display. Dinner seating begins at 5:30 p.m. with service from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive. Dinner cost: $65. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. (760) 726-1340.

A ceremony commemorating men and women who have served in the armed forces will be at 10:45 a.m. tomorrow, Veterans memorial Site, Webb Park, Rancho Bernardo. Keynote speaker will be Major Gen. William H. Wade, 44th Adjutant General of the California National Guard. (858) 674-1711.

There will be a variety of family activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow, 8860 Lawrence Welk Drive, Escondido. Features a 2 p.m. matinee of the Comedy and Magic Show, $25 adults, $10 children; barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. (760) 749-3253.

Fallbrook Beautification Alliance will have the fourth annual celebration, 4 to 9:30 p.m. tomorrow, Grand Tradition. This fundraiser will feature entertainment by The Corvettes, a silent auction and fireworks display. Tickets: $25 adults, $10 children. American Legion Lincoln Deming Post 468, the ladies auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion will have its 66th annual old-fashioned deep-pit beef barbecue. Food will be served between noon and 5 p.m tomorrow. The parade begins at 1 p.m. and the Honky Tonk Kings will play until 10 p.m., 2503 Washington St., Julian. Oceanside's Senior Commission is accepting nominations of senior citizens for consideration as the “official honoree” for the 11th annual Senior Citizens Day Expo in October.
