INDEPENDENCE DAY
Throughout San Diego County, hundreds of thousands of people will celebrate Independence Day with parades, barbecues and fireworks. In South County, there will be fireworks at 9 p.m. tomorrow at Kimball Park in National City, accompanied by the National City Community Concert Band. Carnival rides, games and food booths will be open at various times through Saturday. A parade will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday. Information: (619) 336-4290. SUMMER SWIM
The Parkway Pool at 385 Park Way, Chula Vista, is a perfect place to chill for the summer. The outdoor pool, built in 1955, has two 1-meter diving boards and disabled access. A variety of programs for youths, adults and seniors, and the intimate nature make the pool a favorite of lap swimmers. Cost: adults, $3; children/seniors, $2. BEST OF THE REST
Lemon Grove will celebrate the 80th birthday of “The Big Lemon,” the city's iconic, 3,500-pound civic symbol at Lemon Grove Avenue and Broadway. The event, including free lemon drops, lollipops and balloons, will begin at 10 a.m. today in front of the lemon. Information: (619) 460-4353.
