For Their Benefit is a weekly listing of activities sponsored by nonprofit organizations to raise funds for programs that serve San Diegans.
FRIDAY
BPOE Encinitas Lodge 2243's annual barbecue and fundraiser, benefiting Cardiff Ada Harris and Ocean Knoll schools. 4:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 7 p.m. July 13. Held at the Elks Lodge, 1391 Windsor Road, Cardiff. On Friday, a steak fry with evening dancing and music; Saturday, an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner with music and dancing; Sunday, a barbecue and family fun day. Open to the public. Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego sixth annual Wags for Wishes, benefiting San Diego children battling life-threatening medical conditions. 9 to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and July 13, at the Otay Ranch Town Center, 2015 Olympic Parkway, Chula Vista. Hundreds of dogs will compete in events, including agility, herding, flyball, obedience and more. Six events are open to the public. Admission and parking free; well-behaved dogs are welcome. SATURDAY
Second annual Wright Family Community Picnic, benefiting The Autism Tree Project Foundation. Noon to four p.m. at Westminster Park in Point Loma. A picnic lunch will be served from noon to 2 p.m., and there will be a carnival with 22 booths where families can make their own pottery, play games, buy artwork and more. The Jon Garner Trio will provide music; free admission. Information: (619) 405-0176.
JULY 13
San Diego Blood Bank's Naked Juice Walk/Run, benefiting the San Diego Blood Bank. 7 a.m. at the Embarcadero Marina Park North. Presenting sponsor Naked Juice will treat racers to Naked Juice, a T-shirt and a post-event lunch party. The team with the most members will win a catered party and the top individual fundraiser will win a Victoria, Canada, getaway. Information: (800) 4MY-SDBB, ext. 8176.
