MONDAY

State is to blame

California is expected to enter day seven of the new fiscal year without a state budget.

Angle: The real problem is not the state's ability to pay its bills but the uncertainty that is extended to cities, counties and school districts. Their budget plans are mere guesses until they learn what monies and unfunded mandates they will receive from the state.

Close of business is deadline for submitting comments on the revised environmental documents for the Chula Vista bayfront.

Angle: : Two groups submitted more than 750 pages of questions in an effort to stall use of 550 acres of bayfront land. Those questions now have been addressed.

FRIDAY

No Police Escort

Escondido's popular Cruisin' Grand outdoor auto show nostalgia continues with a military vehicle theme.

Angle: The budget-wracked city government has pulled donated police services for civic events. Event sponsors such as the Downtown Business Association of Escondido must start paying for police time.
