The San Diego Union-Tribune

AL Chatter

August 3, 2008

NOTABLE

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was suspended for last night's game against Cleveland and also fined for a hat-kicking outburst Thursday that led fans to throw hats and baseballs on the field during a victory over the White Sox.

Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya has tenderness in his upper right arm-shoulder area and will not be available to pitch for at least a few days.

BY THE NUMBERS

19 Hits by the Royals, their most since Sept. 29, 2006.

WHO'S HOT

Paul Byrd

Cleveland pitcher holds Twins to one run on six hits over seven innings, has allowed just five runs in last four starts.

WHO'S NOT

Mark Buehrle

White Sox starter loses at K.C. in shortest and worst outing of year, gives up 14 hits and eight runs in 4 1/3 innings.

QUOTABLE

“You kick your hat and then all the havoc that went on afterward, I figured I'd get a little bit of a fine. I didn't know about the suspension.”

– Ron Gardenhire (see above)
