The Magical Elves at Bravo have been working their abracadabras to the bone for this season's all-new “Top Design.”
Elves is the same production company that took Bravo's mega-hit “Project Runway” to the top of its silk-stocking run. For anyone not familiar with the format of either show: Talented amateurs and yet-to-be discovered professionals are given a challenge, design or fashion, to be completed in a set time. The winner is determined by a panel of judges and is “in” to continue the competition; the loser is out.
In this second season, professional designer Todd Oldham is the mentor to the 13 contestants, moving on from his original role as host/mentor.
“My schedule is very tight,” Oldham said. “When I first joined 'Top Design' I was able to do both, but being a mentor was and is my favorite part.”
India Hicks, a model and designer (and bridesmaid at Diana, Princess of Wales' wedding to Prince Charles), is the new host.
Hicks is enthusiastic about her role. “There are lots of things different from season one,” she said. “We're really designing outside the box, literally. We've taken our kids out and designing in real places. It's fantastic, it's intriguing to see what they can do.”
The new season of “Top Design” premieres at 10 p.m. Wednesday on the Bravo network.
